Lady Vikings Lacrosse Nets Overtime Victory

Alexa Froccaro scores 3 minutes into OT to give Schreiber an 8-7 win over Deer Park.

Following dominating wins in the team's first two league games, the Port Washington Lady Vikings girls varsity lacrosse team faced a much tougher task on Wednesday at Schreiber High School. After defeating Island Trees and Seaford by a combined score of 32-12, it took overtime for the Lady Vikings to squeak by Deer Park, 8-7, in intense, non-league action.

Alexa Froccaro scored the game winner three minutes into overtime, her team-leading third goal of the game, to net the Lady Vikings third win of the season. Her cousin, Jackie Froccaro, added three goals as well while goalie Samantha Tilts made 12 saves for the Lady Vikings leading them to victory.

"These girls really know what to do under pressure," assistant coach Mary Romano said.

Chrissy Commons, who led the team with four assists, played stellar defense on the day as well. She said the entire team was forced to fight with every ounce of its strength on both offense and defense to eek out the win.

"Physically, it was a tough game," Commons said, "but I am happy we were able to come out on top."
