Lady Vikings Sprint to Fourth-Place Finish

Schreiber High School's varsity track and field team has nice showing at the Nassau County Conference II championships.

The Schreiber High School girls varsity track team completed its season earlier this week at the Nassau County Conference II track and field championships at St. Anthony's High School in Huntington. The meet was highlighted by wins in three events for the Lady Vikings — the 55-meter high hurdles, the 600-meter race and the 4 x 400 meters.

Overall, the team finished fourth (66.5 points) behind MacArthur (210), East Meadow (83.5) and Calhoun (76) high schools. Finishing behind the Lady Vikings were Valley Stream (29.5), Plainview-JFK (8.5), Great Neck South (8) and Long Beach (7) high schools.

The Lady Vikings' best result came in the 55-meter high hurdles where senior Elise Ressa finished first, with a time of 9.4 seconds, and freshman Sara Marinelli came in second, just .2 seconds behind. Senior Meghan Byrnes had a first-place finish in the 600 meters in a time of 1:43.10. In the 4 x 400 meters, the team of Marinelli, Byrnes, 11th-grader Janayia Thomas and 12th-grader Bridgette McDermott handily defeated the competition in 4:20.50.
