Port Panthers Honored at Town Hall

Long Island Cup champions recognized.


The Town of North Hempstead recently honored the Port Washington Panthers 14U girls soccer team, champions of the Long Island Cup tournament.

Town Board members and Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman presented certificates to players July 18 at Town Hall in Manhasset.

The Panthers won the Long Island Cup tournament in June with a 3 to 1 win over the South Huntington Strikers in the championship game of the tournament.

The LI cup is the largest soccer tournament in the country with more than 137 teams participating.   

The team of Nicole Preuss, Allison Winter, Ashley Royer, Carly Perlmutter  and Cory Levy, Caitlyn Tien, Mia Papiro, Kate Carraro, Rebecca McCallin, Meaghan Papiro, Natalia Basso, and Madeline Leto, Coach Greg Winter, Assistant Coach Dave McCallin, Lizzy Stein, Talia Goldstein, Caroline Leland, Eva Tamkin, Trainer Walter Zepeda, and Assistant Coach Peter Stein and Stephanie Rothberg, started the elimination tournament in February won four games to make it to the Finals held in Stony Brook.

Representing the team at Town Hall July 18 were: McCallin, Leto,  Mia and Meagan Papiro, Carraro and Preuss.
