Community Chest 2012 Grant Applications Now Available

Grants can range from $1,000 - $45,000.

If your organization is a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 charitable organization that provides services to the Port Washington community, it may be eligible for a grant from the .  

According to the Community Chest, grant funds can provide general operating support or specific program support but cannot be used for capital items.

Previous grants have ranged from $1,000 to $45,000. The total amount of money the Community Chest can allocate in grants is based on the amount of money it raises in its annual fundraising campaign – check out the “Red Feather” in front of the Community Chest building and Train Station to see how much has been raised.  

Grant applications are available online request an application by calling the Community Chest office at (516) 767-2121. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 16, 2012.  

Criteria used to evaluate applications include the need for services in Port Washington, the number of Port Washingtonians served, the need for funds, the ability of the applicant to deliver the services, and the fiscal management and stability of the organization.  

Applications are reviewed and interviews are conducted in April and May by a committee of the Community Chest. Decisions are finalized, and organizations are notified of results in June 2012. For more information, email info@portchest.org or call (516) 767-2121.
