A native New Yorker, Adina has spent most of her life on Long Island, and more than a decade in Port Washington.
Adina's work has appeared in The New York Times, Newsday, AARP, Entrepreneur.com, WashingtonPost.com, F0xBusiness.com, Brooklyn Law School Law Notes, Long Island Weddings, Building Long Island and more. For seven years she was the small business reporter for Long Island Business News, and during her role there she earned three Press Club of Long Island awards. She was also named Small Business Journalist of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Adina has authored or co-authored three published books. These books include the Barnes & Noble best-seller, "Everything I Know About Business I Learned at McDonalds" (McGraw-Hill), which has been translated into at least four different languages; "So You Want To Franchise Your Business" (Entrepreneur Press), with a foreword by Subway co-founder Fred DeLuca, now in its second printing; and "The Everything Fundraising Guide" (Adams Media). In addition, she has been commissioned to write books on real estate and entrepreneurship, as well as a multimedia theatrical production about the history of Long Island.
Favorite pastimes: reading, cooking and walking along Port's fabulous harbor.
Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible and human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal certain key beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable.
This disclosure is not a license for our editors to inject these beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that our beliefs are on the record will force us to be ever mindful to write, report, and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you, the user, ever think you see evidence that we failed in this mission, we wholeheartedly invite you to let us know.
Politics:
I usually see all points of view, which helps as a journalist in telling a complete, balanced story. I believe government should be accountable and accessible to constituents.
Religion:
I am a spiritual person, and I think religion is fascinating from a historical perspective. I believe in everyone's right to observe one's religion without question, so long as it does not harm anyone. It troubles me that religion can still cause conflict in this day and age.
Local Hot Button Issues:
Right now the economy seems to be presenting the most challenges. Long Island has always been an expensive place to live, but when people see their savings and job prospects erode, the challenges become more comprehensive.
Fortunately, the people of Port Washington have big hearts, whether it's sharing connections, donating time, or giving philanthropically. That's what makes this town all about community. Helping another can make a most profound impact on someone's life and I love the idea of paying it forward.

With respect, those points (Not the Mayor, not TONH, not affiliated with any candidate) were made at least two dozen times, across several threads, not that the other side actually reads... they merely continued to proliferate the Big Lies.

Adina, There is so much negativity, ignorance, and people just being plain old rude attached to this article... http://portwashington.patch.com/articles/library-budget-passes Can some of these people be reprimanded or asked to leave the Patch? It's irritating! Also, it seems as though "Ruth" and "Pat" are the same person. Any way to find out?? Ugh. Just a thought...
