Temple Beth Israel Hosts Comedian Joel Chasnoff March 23

Laughs for the Port Washington community.

Need a good laugh?

Then be sure to catch comedian Joel Chasnoff. He will bring Jewish humor to the Temple Beth Israel stage on Saturday, March 23. Chasnoff is known for comedy that's clever, sharp, and never degrading. His act is a 180-degree turn from the Borscht Belt comics of old. Audiences across the spectrum, from students at College of Holy Cross to U.S. Marines stationed in Okinawa to Lubavitch rabbis in Flatbush find Chasnoff brings a brand of comedy that many find smart, witty, and most importantly - hilarious.

Chasnoff has performed at some of the biggest comedy venues in seven countries around the globe and was the warm-up act for Lewis Black and Jon Stewart of  The Daily Show. His mix of personal anecdotes and keen observational humor is centered on the absurdity of modern American life.

Chasnoff started his standup career as a student at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating from Penn, he served as a tank gunner in the Israeli Defense Forces. His memoir, The 188th Crybaby Brigade: A Skinny Jewish Kid from Chicago Fights Hezbollah is a hilarious and poignant account of Joel’s service in the Israeli Defense Forces.

When not on tour, Chasnoff teaches stand-up comedy at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan. Joel is currently writing the text for Balaboosta: A Cookbook(Workman) with Israeli chef and two-time Chopped Champion Einat Admony. His writing has also appeared in The Idiot's Guide to Jokes (Alpha), The Big Book of Jewish Humor: 25th Anniversary Edition (Morrow), and The Daily Forward.
