Question of The Day: Local Shops

What kind of shop does Port Washington really need?

What one business would you like to see come to town? Do we have too many of one kind of business and should we work to attract a more diversified business community?

We do NOT need any more hair salons, nail salons, dry cleaners, pizza places, Chinese food or frozen yogurt. However, we COULD use a good falafel place, another American restaurant and a sandwich type place (I know Port natives are really against chains but having a Hale & Hearty, Panera or Cosi wouldn't be so terrible; it'd be much better than having all of those empty storefronts).

A place to buy clothing for boys (other than The Children's Place).

I think the town would be nice if there was a mixture of mom and pop stores with established retail chains. It makes for more choices and the established stores can weather dips and actually pay the rents so we wouldn't see so many closed storefronts.

We need a cheese monger! Gourmet cheeses, chocolates, olive oil, specialty and fancy food items to bring to a dinner party. Could do tastings and classes with established wine merchants and local bakeries providing baguettes. Styled after Rubiner's in Great Barrington, MA. Near the train station so it's a quick stop after getting home. Especially useful since there are no decent gourmet shops in Penn Station like there are in Grand Central.

Particularly out of line since it's a shared-use puddle for camp groups splashing, not a good poolRead More venue for individuals swimming.

The TONH should be under some investigation for charging such a high fee for a very short summerRead More season. You lose most of june and the pool closes in early September. Better off paying as you go just purchase the parking permit which is good at the Manorhaven Pool and the Harbor beach. Stop buying a season pass in protest to the yearly excessive price increase.

And speaking of investigations, what's up with Jonny's Roslyn CC fiasco?
