Five Boredom-Busters Over Winter Break

No reason for cabin fever this December.

That stretch between Christmas and New Years can get hum drum, especially when winter's chill means so much time spent indoors. Fortunately, there are plenty of activities for the little ones to enjoy right here in Port Washington.

1. The offers fairytale magic with a royal tea party, featuring a visit from a "real princess" on Tuesday, Dec. 28.  This session offers storytelling, singing and craft-making. Also,  children will have a tasty treat to take home.

On Wednesday morning, Dec. 29, the PRC transforms into a winter wonderland as children are treated to a this multisensory class. Laura Stulbaum, who will teach the PRC's new Weird Science program, will conduct cool experiments with the children as they discover all things wintry through music, crafts and cooking.

Both camps take place from 10am-1pm, and cost $40 for PRC members and $50 for non-members. Children should bring lunch. Though camps are are suitable for all ages, children under 3 should be accompanied by an adult. Call 516-767-3808 for more information. 

2.  is offering a four-day holiday camp from Monday, Dec. 27, through Thursday, Dec. 30. Soccer camp runs from 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., for ages four through 10, with players divided by age groups on the field. Baseball camp runs from 12:30p.m. through 3 p.m., for ages five through 12, with players divided by age groups on the field. Each session is $125, but athletes who enroll in the morning session receive a $25 discount for the afternoon. Call 516 767-7675 to register.

3.  is offering Winter Break Art Camp on Dec. 24, and Dec. 27 through Dec. 31. There are two alternatives. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., children can make an art project, and enjoy a snack and drink, all for $35. And from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., children can make one or more projects and and enjoy a snack, drink and lunch, for $50. The studio offers a 10 percent sibling discount. 4.  features "Moving with Mike," with an afternoon of song, dance and finger-plays. This event takes place on Tuesday Dec. 28 at 2:30 p.m., and tickets are required. Also at the library, "Gems: The World's Wisdom Stories" as told by theater artist Doug Berk, who relays tales from around the globe. This event takes place Thursday, Dec. 30, at 2:30 p.m., and tickets are required. Registration for both library events begins Dec. 20. Call 883-4400, Ext.150.

5.  is offering plenty of kid-friendly movies, including "Tangled," "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," and "Yogi Bear 3D." Call (516) 944-6200 for showtimes.
