Oct. 13: Attention, History Buffs

Doings around Port today.

Wednesday has something for everyone, whether you are a history enthusiast or a Vikings fan and want to cheer on your favorite team. Here is a quick snapshot:

1. History buffs, take note. Henry B. Joyce, executive director of Planting Fields Foundation, will speak on Coe Hall, the 65 room Tudor Revival mansion located in the Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park.  Joyce will speak Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society, 336 Port Washington Boulevard. The topic: the mansion's history and the challenges and tactics to make historic sites welcoming and interesting.

2. League of Women Voters Port Washington/Manhasset is hosting "Meet the Candidates" night at the Unitarian Church at 48 Shelter Rock Road in Manhasset. Learn more

3. Village of Flower Hill meets Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. For those pleading not guilty to a charge, the judge will schedule you for a conference to be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 27.

4. Over at the Port Washington Senior Citizens Center, on 80 Manorhaven Blvd, there's bridge from 9:15 a.m. to 12 p.m., drawing from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Tai Chi from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

5. Boys soccer is at 4:30 p.m. at the high school turf field; Wednesday's game is against Herricks. Boys varsity volleyball  is at 7 p.m. in the Paul D. Schreiber High School gym; Wednesday's game is against Massapequa.
