Port Schools Closed Wednesday, Jan. 12

Early announcement gives families the chance to plan in advance, officials say.

will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 12, based on predictions for extreme weather conditions. 

Port Washington could be hit with as much as 18 inches of snow Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service, which as issued a winter storm warning in effect from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Wednesday. The is asking drivers to stay off the road and if they must travel to use extreme caution. 

On Tuesday afternoon, the following statement was posted on the school district's website: "The safety of our students and their families is always our number one priority. We are taking this opportunity to inform you this evening so that you may make emergency family preparations."
