Firefighters from numerous North Shore departments are battling a fully involved fire at 4 Sousa Drive in Sands Point.
Neighbors said they first saw the flames just after the electricity was restored on much of the block, which had been in the dark since Hurricane Irene blew through the area.
Those same neighbors said a second building on the property may have also caught fire. Neighbors said no one was home at the time of the fire.
First responders included the Port Washington Fire Department, assisted by Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department, Roslyn Fire Department and Great Neck. Also on the scene were Sands Point Police Department and Nassau County Police Department.
Fire apparatus crowded Sousa Drive, Middle Neck Road and Tibbets Lane.
Firefighters expect to battle the blaze through the night.
