North Shore Animal League Offers Help for Pitbull Pup Joey

The Port Washington organization offers $5K for info leading to arrest, conviction of person who tossed pup from moving car.

Long Islanders were horrified to learn about Joey, the pitbull puppy wrapped in a plastic trash bag and tossed from a moving car in Brentwood Saturday. Now  wants to help.

The no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization in Port Washington is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person that tossed the 3-month-old puppy, who is being treated for a broken neck at the  in West Islip.

NSALA would also like to offer assistance in finding Joey a permanent, loving home.

“We are outraged and appalled at the callousness of this cowardly act,” said President of North Shore Animal League America John Stevenson, in a statement. “This 3-month-old puppy was thrown out of a moving car, in a plastic trash bag, with no consideration for his life. We would love to help little Joey find the loving home he deserves.”

According to NSALA, reports show that doctors at the West Islip Veterinary Medical Center determined that Joey had fractured three of his six neck vertebrae when he hit the ground. He was in intense pain and had labored breathing as his lungs were bruised by the impact. According to doctors at the West Islip Clinic, Joey will be hospitalized for six to eight weeks, and there is a 50 percent chance his neck bones will heal on their own.

North Shore Animal League urges anyone who has information that could lead to the arrest of the person who had no concern for poor Joey’s life to come forward.

“Let’s show Joey that not all humans have the same disregard for life as the inhumane person that committed this crime,” said NSALA Senior Vice President of Operations Joanne Yohannan.
