Know an extraordinary woman? Consider nominating her for the 20th Annual May W. Newburger Women’s Roll of Honor Breakfast. The event will be held on Thursday, March 21, at Harbor Links in Port Washington from 8-10 a.m.
The Town of North Hempstead is accepting nominations through Friday, Feb. 1, 2013.
Since 1994, North Hempstead has held a Women’s History Month Breakfast to honor women who have made a contribution to their community, possess a special personal talent, or have accomplished a significant achievement through public or quiet work.
Chaired by Town Clerk Leslie Gross, the event will have showcase this year’s “trail blazers,” highlighting history, community activism, and camaraderie.

"Trashion" Judge Supports Local Arts
At North Hempstead’s first-ever “Trashion” Show on Wednesday, students will walk the runway, modeling their own creations made from recyclable materials. Recycling is part of the town's green initiative.
One of the judges of this arts-meets-environment event is none other than Damon Gersh, founder of HEARTS Port Washington, a nonprofit that aims to enrich the arts at the public school level. Gersh judged various fashion accessories submitted for entry into the “Trashion” show portion of the Recycled Art contest.
"This was my first "Trashion Show" as a member of the Town's of the Arts Council," Gersh said. "I didn't know what to expect but the kids did a wonderful job making art and fashion out of recyclable items. I'm so glad to see the Town promoting environmental responsibility with our kids in such a fun, creative way."
Gersh joined fellow judges Chief Sustainability Officer Fran Reid and Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman.
The runway walk takes place Wednesday at 6 p.m., at the recently opened Yes We Can Community Center in Westbury.
