North Hempstead Expands 311 Call Center Hours

The call center is now open Sundays.

Got questions about potholes and the like? The Town of North Hempstead has answers. And now, town government is providing those answers seven days a week.

That's because TONH has expanded its 311 Call Center to include Sundays. Now residents can reach an operator Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The center eliminates what Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman recently conceded as that "often long and bureaucratic nightmare of calls being endlessly transferred" simply to get some information.

Established in 2005, the 311 Call Center was originally launched through a $500,000 federal grant. The center averages 100,000 calls a year and just hit its 500,000-call milestone.
