Parents Urged Not To Drop Students at End of St. Johns by Schreiber

Accident waiting to happen, police say.

Port Washington Police have a message for those dropping students off at St. Johns Place behind Schreiber High School in the morning. Drop them off at the corner of Monfort Road and St. John's Place where there are stop signs.

"They are advised not to turn at the stop sign and then proceed to drive their children to the end of St. John's Place where they are observed then backing up or make a u-turn while numerous children are walking to school," said Police Commissioner Angela Mullins.

The practice of driving students all the way to St. Johns Place, police say, is an accident waiting to happen.

“Someone is going to get hit,” said Detective Anthony Guzzello.

And while a gate at the perimeter of school property is open at the start and end of the school day, police say, it is an exit only, not an entrance, for drivers after dropping off or picking up students.
