Pride in Port 2011 Essay Contest Winner Kailey Gallagher

A note from the Pride In Port Committee: Kailey is a fifth grader at St. Peter of Alcantara School. Her essay is about the street she moved to just a year ago. A lifelong resident of Port Washington, Kailey lives with her parents, Kim and John Gallagher, and two sisters. Always on the move, Kailey’s activities include softball, basketball, golf, volleyball, skateboarding and ripsticking. Math is her favorite subject in school.

My Street

Do you have a favorite place in Port Washington?  I do! Maybe yours is a store or a restaurant.  But my favorite place in Port Washington is the street I live on.   I like it because a lot of awesome people live around me, the location is nice, and it is not very busy.

One reason why I enjoy living on my street is because you can never get bored.  There are so many kind people that live around there.  If I am ever bored, I can just walk up the street because my friend Lindsey lives there.  I can also walk to the next street and my friends Ellen and Gabby live there.  And my other friends, Sarah, Emily, and Julie live a few blocks away.  So there is always something to do!

Another reason why I enjoy living on this street is because of the location.  It is right by Main Street.  I like living near Main Street because I can walk to my favorite places.  Once my friends and I walked to Twisted.  On nice days my family and I walk to Main Street to get something to eat.  I like doing this because it is fun and it doesn't take very long.

The last reason why I like my street is because it is not very busy.  I like this because there are not a lot of cars so I can do a lot of things in the street.  Every day I practice pitching to my Mom in the street for softball.  When I have friends over, we always play in the street.  And cars barely come by.  I like this because it is not very noisy.  Also, I'm glad cars don't come by a lot because if a car came by every minute that would be annoying.  You wouldn't get to do anything! 

As you can see, I love living here.  When we first looked at our house last year in October I loved it.  When my parents decided to buy it, I was so happy.  I am so glad I live on this street.  I hope you like your street as much as I like mine!
