Save The Date: College Consortium

Families from Port Washington, Manhasset and Locust Valley to attend fair on April 16.

Applying to college can be stressful, as families ponder the various options for their high school students.

With so many colleges to choose from, it helps to have the chance to meet with admissions representatives.

Parents and students from Port Washington, Manhasset and Locust Valley will have that opportunity on Tuesday, April 16, at Schreiber High School's Seventh Annual College Consortium, where more than 80 representatives from colleges and universities will be in attendance.

The event first took place in Port Washington in April 2006.  The administration and guidance office of the Paul D. Schreiber worked to invite colleges to send admissions and alumni representatives to our school as a means of increasing the direct access our families would have with the colleges in which they were interested. What's more, individual panels and breakout sessions were created targeting the important topics in the college admissions process. The first consortium featured 41 colleges and drew more than 800 parents and students. Each year the event has grown in the number of colleges and families who take part in the evening.

The evening will begin with a panel discussion regarding key changes and issues affecting college admissions. The panel will run from 6:35-7:30 p.m.

At the conclusion of the panel discussions, parents and students will participate in the college fair segment of the evening. During this time, college representatives are assigned different locations throughout the building so that students can speak to them about their programs, admissions procedures, and application processes. This is the ideal setting for students to gather pertinent information. Unlike the larger fairs, parents, students, and representatives have the opportunity to have quality time to ask questions and exchange information.

The following is a listing of the schools that will present at the consortium, with more expected to sign on in the next week.
