School Board Recognizes Port Washington Students

Port Washington students were recently recognized for various achievements.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kathleen Mooney and board members presented the students with with certificates at a Feb. 25 Port Washington School District Board of Education meeting. 

Eight Paul D. Schreiber High School seniors were honored for being named finalists in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. Those students include Aaron Bialer, Daniel Bidikov, Justin Calamari, Laura Eule, Lylia Li, Harry Paul, Noah White and Julia Zeh.

Weber Middle School eighth-grader Taylor Sinett was recognized for writing her children’s book, “A Weasel for an Easel.” School officials acknowledged her devotion in creating the book, which she wrote for The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.

Weber Middle School sixth-grader Jackeline Fernandes was also presented with a certificate of excellence. Last year, she entered the Sen. Jack M. Martins 2013 Thanksgiving essay contest, where participants wrote about things for which they were most thankful. Her essay was selected as exemplary – thoughtful, well written and creative. A reception was held for family members in January to honor all essay winners.
