Schreiber Music Student Chosen for NAFME All-Eastern Honors Band

Ethan Usoskin of Port Washington also selected for NYSSMA All-State concert.

The following was submitted to Patch by Port Washington School District.

Schreiber Junior Ethan Usoskin has been selected to participate in the National Association for Music Education (NAFME) All-Eastern Honors Band. With assistance from his music teacher Mark Brenner, Usoskin will prepare remarkably challenging music and perform under the leadership of a prominent conductor in this biennial event. He will join the other selected students for three days of rehearsal prior to the concert to take place in Hartford, Connecticut on April 7, 2013.

In December, Usoskin was selected to partake in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State concert in Rochester. Not only was Usoskin chosen to play Bb clarinet, he was an alternate on the Eb clarinet. A truly accomplished musician! While in Rochester, Usoskin sat first chair/concert master and was a featured soloist in the All-State Symphonic Band under the direction of Professor Anthony Maiello, from George Mason University.

Mark Brenner has worked with Usoskin since he was 11 years old and the youngest member of the Summer Band. For the last two years, he has earned a merit scholarship to attend USDAN, a summer program for the performing arts. In addition to his outstanding performance ability, Usoskin is an aspiring composer currently enrolled in Schreiber’s Advance Placement Music Theory Course.

Port Washington Schools extends congratulations and continued success to Ethan Usoskin.

Disclosure: Ethan Usoskin is the son of Port Washington Patch Editor Adina Genn.
