Port Washington Sports Notebook: April 22-28

Patch gets you caught up on all your local sports action

There are so many sports out in the Port Washington area, it can be a full-time job just sifting through all of the action. Luckily, you have Patch and we will get you caught up in one convenient place each week.Here’s what the local Port Washington teams have been up to this week:

Baseball
: 
The Vikings defeated Valley Stream Central on April 22 by the score of 6-4. Bryce Keller had 13 strikeouts in the game. Erik Klug was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. 

On April 24 they defeated VSC again by the score of 4-3. Nick Duarte's two-run single in the fourth inning was the deciding run. He also recorded the save by inducing a double play to end the game.

They were edged in a 13-12 slugfest on April 26 to VSC which spoiled the opportunity to sweep. The game ended in walk-off fashion, with Angel Acevedo being hit by the pitch to score the winning run. Acevedo was 3-for-3 in the game with three RBI.

On April 27 they nearly came back from a 10-3 deficit against Mineola, however, they fell 10-9. Nick Iadevaio pitched a scoreless seventh inning to record to save.


Softball
: 
On April 23 the Vikings shut out Freeport 2-0 thanks to the storng pitching of Alex Caprariello who tossed a two-hit shutout. She only allowed one walk, while striking out seven.

The next day, they won 19-6 over Uniondale. The offense was led by Georgia Goodman who reached base safely five times and scored three times.

On April 25 they posted more huge offensive numbers, winning 17-4 over Elmont. Georgia Goodman drove in five runs on the day, and Emma Lupoli hit a home run.

Boys Lacrosse: 
The Vikings defeated New Hyde Park 16-6 on April 23. The scoring was led by John Crawley and Daniel Grossman, who both tallied three goals with Crawley adding one assist on the day. 

Girls Lacrosse
: 
The Vikings had a strong week, winning two of three. They lost 16-8 to Farmingdale on April 22. Nadine Hagnady led the Dalers with five goals and three assists. 

The Vikings next edged Plainedge 8-6 on April 24. The score was knotted at 6-6 late in the second half, but Danielle Rosmarin scored to give Port Washington the lead. It was her third goal of the day, she scored one more to make it four.


They also won on April 26 over Locust Valley by the score of 10-6. Rosmarin was once again the leading scorer, as she poured in five goals and added an assist. Natalie Ledwitz contributed four goals as well.    

Manhasset:


Baseball
: 

The boys had a solid two of three series win over Valley Stream South. On April 22 they were defeated by them 12-7. Andrew Castano led the offense with a 2-for-3 effort including a RBI triple and a double. His triple gave them the lead for good. The winning pitcher was Andrew Labeck. 


The next day, they were triumphant with a 9-4 win. Jon Stefan and Jake Shelton both recorded two RBI on the game.


On April 25 they won the series with a 5-3 victory. Christian Winnitzki recorded his first varsity win with six strong innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out seven. 

Softball
: 
The team defeated Sewanhaka on April 27 by the score of 5-4. The winning run was scored on Elizabeth Jones' RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Katie Giesecke.


Boys Lacrosse
: 
The Indians defeated Plainedge on April 23 by the score of 10-2. Mike Fahey had three goals and one assist. Matt Gavin added three goals as well.

On April 25 they defeated South Side 5-3. No player scored multiple goals which proved it was a team effort. Dylan Meyer recorded 10 saves in goal for Manhasset.

Girls Lacrosse
: 
The Indians split their two games this week. On April 24 they routed North Shore 17-5. Katherine Hallet and Natalie Stefan both led the offense with three goals each.

On April 26 they lost a real shootout against St. Agnes by the score of 16-14. Despite the loss, Lindsey Ronbeck scored four goals in the game. The girls record stands at 8-2 on the season.

St. Mary's:


Baseball
: 
The Gaels lost their lone game of the week on April 22 to Kellenberg by the score of 6-0. Matt Weissheir was the winning pitcher, tossing six innings, fanning eight and allowing only five hits.

Softball
: 
The team lost both of their games this week. On April 22 they were defeated 14-2 against St. John the Baptist. Julia Calabro tossed five innings, allowed one hit, walked four while fanning 10.

On April 23 they lost a close one, 5-4, to Sacred Heart. Delia Karamouzis was 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored in the win.

Boys Lacrosse
: 
The Gaels blew away their competition on the lacrosse pitch this week, first, on April 24 it was a 17-5 victory over Long Island Lutheran. Tim Ahern had an incredible goal scoring eight goals and assisting five others. 

They were victorious again on April 27 against Cardinal Hayes by the score of 15-2. Once again, Ahern lead the offense with five goals and four assists. Stephen Milhaven added five goals of his own.

Girls Lacrosse
: 
On April 22 the team edged Molloy 8-7. Alyssa James, Katie Dulligan and Nicole Fischetti all scored two goals in the win.

The team was defeated on April 23 by Carle Place 18-6. Fae Kuhnan led St. Mary's in goals with three on the day. Alyssa James contributed two of her own.
